Something for the kid inside all of us...

Electronic Arts have announced EA Playground, an all-new game in development at EA Canada for the Wii and Nintendo DS. Slated for release in the autumn, EA Playground, according to EA “captures the exuberance and nostalgia of your neighbourhood playground, turning your gaming space into an arena of interactive fun with immersive activities designed for kids, and the kid inside all of us.”

So what this means is that Smelly Johnson and Eggy Bough can get chicken runned into the nettles whilst you make water bombs from your text books? Apparently, no, not quite...

Said Executive producer Dave McCarthy, “Young, old, male or female -- EA Playground has something for everyone. EA Playground transports you to your fantasy playground, packed with interesting characters, over-the top gameplay, and a ton of collectables. Kids can bring the excitement of the playground home, and parents or even grandparents can re-experience their childhood thrills.”

So yeah, we can play handstands against to the wall to see Claire Lewis’ knickers before running off claiming she’d given you ‘girl fleas’? Still a ‘no’, I’m afraid... EA Playground features games that are easy to pick-up-and-play by fully capitalizing on the unique control mechanics of both the Wii and the Nintendo DS. Swing the Wii remote in tetherball, battle your friends and family in dodgeball or blow into the Nintendo DS mic to fire spitballs... See? I knew there’d be something involving gobbing somewhere...

But there’s a bit more to it than just lobbing soggy bits of paper at each other. You don’t always have to be playing with your friends and family in order to have fun. Explore the world on your own as you enter different locations, unlocking new activities, making wacky in-game friends and collecting rewards and stickers to upgrade your abilities along the way.

There’s no definite release date as yet but perhaps you’ll want to start saving up your lunch money...
