Onto the show

Onto the show

Hogshead publishing was pushing their range of Crime Scene and Fright Night D20 adventure books, I’ve wanted to get the Fright Night books for a while now and this time I succumbed to their lure and bought the 6 books that are on offer so far. After reading the Polar Terror book it’s looking like a good investment. Each book is a self contained Modern day adventure scenario for the D20 system used by Dungeons & Dragons in a different type of horror genre ranging from ‘The Thing’ in Polar Terror to rather more self explanatory titles of The Asylum and The Haunted House which can all be played through in an evening or expanded into mini campaigns complete with new rules for fright, scares, weapons and equipment.
Plus they come packed in cool evidence bags that are just begging to be used as props in a live game.

Cloudship of Mars, one of the unusually large scale games.

Among the new releases that you couldn’t get away from were Wizards of the Coasts Star Wars collectible miniatures game and it’s Revenge of the Sith starter set which was particularly cool and I had to be physically restrained from grabbing it and had to settle for making random lightsaber sounds for the rest of the day much to the missus’ annoyance!

Warm it all up! Give me everything you’ve got!... Starship Troopers Miniatures game in action

The other big release was Mongoose publishing’s Starship Troopers miniatures game. Mongoose are best known for their licensed D20 rpg games including Babylon 5, Conan, Judge Dredd and Slaine, but recently have been producing some fine miniatures games with Babylon 5:A Call to Arms and Gangs of Mega City One. Starship Troopers is the latest in the line and while I didn’t get to play on the day, it certainly looked the part with fantastic minis of the bugs and power armour clad mobile infantry men. I can’t wait to see the line expanded especially the Tanker bug which is supposed to be huge.
