The arrival & setting up

The arrival & setting up

It didn’t take long to find Andy and get started setting up the BITS stall, putting up the sign, hanging blister packs and unpacking an unfeasibly large amount of card board boxes full of books and miniatures. As well as pimping Traveller to the unwary with his sales patter and running demo games on a nearby table with the help of his support crew that didn’t turn up early enough to help (which is why we were drafted in). I’ve only played the Traveller rpg a couple of times at cons but never really got into it although I did nearly grab the Traveller D20 version that came out not so long ago. I prefer the space opera of stuff like Star Wars to Travellers hard sci fi setting but the BITS people have done a good job of supporting it have a fine selection of self published supplement covering all aspects of the game with sourcebooks covering everything from alien races to unusual cargo to diplomatic and political situations in different regions of space.

He was also selling some stuff for his local games shop that we almost grabbed for ourselves but when we returned later in the day it had already been snagged by someone more determined than I was, ah well at least we got a free t-shirt out of it even if I may never see the Farscape rpg that cheap ever again. It took a surprising amount of work to get the stall up and running which only left us with only 20 minutes before the doors opened so rather than dash round the stalls we gave in to our hunger and grabbed a sausage and bacon roll in relative peace and not nearly as bad or as expensive as I remember the food at Olympia.

With food consumed we set off on our tour of Salute. For the first time Salute has been expanded to all Olympia 2’s four floors all of which were bedecked in St George’s Flags as the con fell on St Georges day and if you went to salute you would’ve got a mini of St George himself in the goody bags that were handed out. Unfortunately I missed out on these as exhibitors don’t get a goody bag.

Before the doors opened… peace and calm reign

And after the doors open… Chaos Rules!!
