Jet Set Worker interactive game and exclusive vendor product line-ups present resellers with great opportunities around the new operating platform

Computer 2000, the UK arm of Tech Data, is aiming to maximise excitement and enthusiasm around the launch of Windows 7 with a series of innovative activities that focus on the potential of the new operating system to ‘change your world'.

The company has created an innovative viral marketing and promotional campaign that encourages resellers to develop their ability to sell Windows 7 by testing their knowledge of the new system in a highly interactive and fun way. Two resellers who successfully complete Jet Set Worker in the fastest times can win one of 2 x £500 Game Vouchers just in time for Christmas. Those who complete the game later will be given access to exclusive promotional offers and discounts on Windows 7.  

Computer 2000 is also running special and exclusive promotions around Windows 7 with Samsung, Sony, Acer and Toshiba, all of which give resellers great opportunities to make the most of the Windows 7 launch.

  • Samsung will completely refresh of its range to coincide with the Windows 7 launch and after 22 October all new models will ship with the new operating system. New additions will include new consumer ultra low-voltage (CULV) models that take full advantage of Windows 7 power-saving features - the 11.6-inch X120 will offer a battery life of more than six hours and the 14-inch and 15-inch X420 and X520 will provide up to nine hours.
  • Sony is launching Windows 7 on its new X series of with their ultra-slim notebooks, which are packed with feature yet have a chassis that is only 13.9mm-thick and its L series of all-in-one desktops with their advance touch functionality and integrated software.
  • Acer - is introducing the Aspire 5738 3D and touch-screen 15.6-inch notebooks plus a new Aspire One D250 that will be pre-loaded with Windows 7 from day one. An all-in-one desktop, the Z5600 with a full HD screen will also be launched and there is an updated version of the Aspire Timeline that will give users up to 10 hours of battery life. Also new from Acer is the new 11.6-inch Aspire 1810P notebook.
  • Toshiba will is launching a complete refresh of its Satellite Pro range alongside Windows 7 offering great value, portability and a display quality that's ideal for all quality-conscious home and small business users.

All four vendors are also providing free upgrades to Windows 7 on all notebooks and PCs purchased with standard versions of Microsoft Windows Vista between 26 June 2009 and 31 January 2010.

Mark Glasspool, General Manager of the PC Systems business unit comments: "Windows 7 is the next big thing in the PC market and we're going to make sure resellers can make the most of the massive excitement and activity that we are going to see around the launch.

"Our ‘change your world' viral marketing campaign will raise awareness of the benefits and help resellers get sales and technical staff up to speed and ready to talk to customers about Windows 7. Our exclusive vendor promotions meanwhile provide resellers with a great set of value propositions that they can take to market immediately."

The complete Windows 7 portfolio will be fully available on Licensing Online making it very easy for resellers to find build quotes for upgrades and new license sales for Windows 7. James Reed, General Manager of the Software division, states: "Resellers will be able to build accurate quotes and place and manage orders for Windows 7 through Licensing Online from day one. This will be a valuable tool in helping them to make sure that all customer orders are processes accurately and as quickly as possible, maximising customer satisfaction and driving improved cash-flow for resellers."

The launch presents resellers addressing the SME market in particular with a not-to-be-missed opportunity, he adds.  "Throughout the UK, there are millions of PCs installed in small businesses just waiting to be upgraded to Windows 7. This represents an outstanding opportunity for Microsoft Partners to - both to encourage users who have recently purchased systems to step up to Windows 7, and to offer those with older notebooks and desktops the opportunity to refresh their entire set-up. This will be one of the main thrusts of our launch campaign and we are geared up and ready to work with resellers to ensure that they can realise all their potential opportunities."
