Brightness, Blacks and Contrast

The updated TUF VG27AQL1A does just enough to achieve HDR400 certification. 400-nit peak luminance is fast becoming a minimum requirement for monitors at this price point.

Vibrant colours, excellent accuracy and wide viewing angles are among the attractions of this 27in IPS panel, yet VA alternatives continue to hold the edge in terms of deep blacks and high contrast. Asus ticks most of the relevant boxes, but do note that the advertised HDR functionality is basic at best; neither brightness nor contrast are strong enough to deliver a truly compelling HDR experience.
