Benchmarks IV
How about another CPU-limited benchmark in the form of Comanche 4. The prowess of the Geforce4 Ti 4600 graphics card means that this benchmark is less of a gaming benchmark and more of a system throughput exercise, perfect for us. Benchmarked at 1024x768x32 with no anti-aliasing.
I first must mention that although the P4X333 holds a 0.64 fps lead over the I845E, this lead is inconsequential. I cannot tell the difference between 35 and 40fps visually, so telling apart a difference of less than one frame per second is impossible. Having said that, it does validate our long-held theory that bandwidth is king in most instances.
We can't let it go without subjecting it to a bit of Quake 3 action. I'll only conduct 512 Fastest to give you yet another idea into system performance on different platforms
Faster memory gives around 10fps at the lowest visual resolution. This figure decreases as we up the resolution and the graphics card slowly becomes the bottleneck with respect to absolute performance. So, as you may have guessed, performance begins to converge to the extent that at 1600x1200x32, the difference between the three 'boards on test is around 1fps.
