BIOS

A quick look in the BIOS is necessary to appreciate a couple of new features specific to Z68 boards.

The handy splash screen of the UEFI BIOS provides an at-a-glance status of the system's health.

Perhaps the strongest suit in this BIOS, there's excellent control over the fan speed and voltages.

Specific Z68 features

This 'advanced' page is where the Virtu output order is configured. You need to have the primary display at the top and the iGPU multi-monitor setup enabled.

For the first time, Intel provides control over the integrated graphics' speed. A Core i5 2500K's IGP (Intel HD Graphics 3000) runs at 850MHz by default, rising to 1,100MHz under Turbo Boost. Here, you can manually configure the speed, in 50MHz steps, you wish the IGP to run at. ASUS is rather optimistic in offering a top speed of 3,300MHz. What's more, backing up the frequency changes, there's an option to increase the current and voltage applied to the iGPU, too.

But keeping everything in perspective, even an overclocked IGP won't threaten the performance of a low-end card
