Power consumption

The 790GX-based Gigabyte MA790GP-DS4H platform, using identical components, achieves a substantial reduction in load power-consumption compared to the 780G platform, and it's difficult to determine why. Both setups still look power-hungry compared to the Intel system, but it has to be remembered that the Intel system is making use of a dual-core rather than quad-core CPU, which at least partly makes up the difference.

In idle mode the IGP core can drop to a staggeringly low 60MHz clock speed to conserve as much power as possible.

The 790GX manages to reduce system power-consumption, whilst simultaneous increasing performance, over the 780G, it seems.
