Price-performance

Like the previous article featuring 6800 GT, I'll examine price-performance in Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 using performance plots of the increase in speed to see if investing in an SLI combination buys you the speed increase you want or expect.

Half-Life 2 Performance Increase

Again, consider the CPU used (FX-55). The powerful CPU allows the 6600 GT in SLI to show off, whereas the faster 6800s run up against the CPU limitation at the median settings. It's all part of the SLI balancing act, choosing cards to match a current or future CPU and mainboard platform, depending on how you're using SLI.

Doom 3 Performance Increase

The gains with FX-55 are similarly impressive for 6600 GT in SLI initially, with all three SLI setups converging in the 80% to 90% gain range, at the upper setting.

Let's examine the power supply and heat aspects in more detail.
