OCZ presentation, bundle and warranty considerations

It's green, it's big and it's powerful. It can only be the incredible hulk, erm, a GeForce 8800 GTX.

Here's what else you get.

Items Multi-language quick-install guide
2 x DVI dongles
2 x PEG-to-molex power connectors
HDTV-Out (component) cable with S-Video-Out connector integrated
S-Video extension cable
Phono (RCA) cable
Driver CD with 97.28 ForceWare, NVTweak O/C tool and WDM drivers

Much like the card, the bundle is also representative of what other companies currently provide with their SKUs. Top gaming titles, it seems, simply push the price of the bundle to a level that's not acceptable to the marketing department. It's been a while since a triple-A title was bundled in with any card, irrespective of package price.

Warranty considerations

OCZ has a lifetime warranty on its Ā£400 GeForce 8800 GTX. The lifetime appears to be just that, with OCZ stating that EOL (end-of-life) cards will be replaced by SKUs based on equivalent market value at the time of RMA.

The warranty - which begins at the point of sale to the final customer - is valid for the original purchaser of the product and cannot be transferred to subsequent users, should it be sold on.

All warranty-related claims are handled by OCZ directly. For European buyers that would normally entail shipping the card to OCZ's RMA centre in Holland. Should the card become defective it needs to be shipped back and, if the fault confirmed, a brand-new card, or equivalent SKU, shipped in its place from OCZ's HQ in California. The company unequivocally states that its 'PowerSwap' warranty ensures that no cards are repaired: all replacements are new.

OCZ also maintains an advanced replacement scheme, whereby a new card can be delivered before the defective model is sent back. This requires a credit card on file, much in the same way that some hard-drive manufacturers offer advanced RMAs.

The warranty is definitely a cut above what most other AICs currently offer.
