Overclocking

We know that AMD's Radeon HD 6850 is a stellar performer when it comes to overclocking, but the HIS HD 6850 IceQ X Turbo still left us impressed.

Dialling voltage up to 1.225V, we managed to hit the golden 1,000MHz mark on the core with memory bumped up to a cool 4,600MHz. That's an increase of 180MHz and 200MHz, respectively, over HIS' factory overclock, and the card showed no signs of instability after a FurMark stress test at the heightened speeds.

This is going to mix up the graphs a little bit, isn't it?

With the overclock in place, the HIS HD 6850 IceQ X Turbo is able to nudge ahead of HD 6870 in Aliens vs. Predator.

The custom overclock has an even more profound effect in Just Cause 2, with the souped-up HIS card managing to best both the £175 HD 6870 and the £200 GTX 560 Ti.

As far as overclocking headroom is concerned, the HIS card offers plenty.
