Presentation and bundle

ABIT's box art is an understated affair. The company only makes explicit mention of its vGuru feature. Internally, the presentation is solid, with the card securely contained on one side and the accessories placed into two boxed on the other.

Special mentioned is deserved for the thorough manual that ABIT provides with its Fatal1ty X800 XL 512MB card. All too often, manufacturers simply add in an unhelpful manual as a mere afterthought. ABIT, though, ensures that users of all knowledge levels can get the most out of their cards. A recent gaming title, or one at all, is conspicuous by its absence. We feel that a near-Ā£300 package, especially a top-end video card, should ship with at least one triple-A title. No such luck here.

The utility/driver CD contained ATI's CATALYST 5.4 driver set, including the Catalyst Control Center. PowerDVD 5.0, DirectX 9.0c, ATI Flash, and ABIT's very own vGuru made up the utilities section. Electronic manuals, of course, were also included.

Hardware-wise, ABIT includes a molex-to-6-pin PCI-Express adapter, a 6-foot-long S-Video cable, a similar composite cable, and a handy covertor between the two. A single DVI dongle is more of a necessity than a luxury nowadays.

All that's missing, really, is a top gaming title.
