Final Thoughts and Rating

In Win has a habit of producing weird and at-times wonderful enclosures, so we weren't too sure what to expect from the unusual-looking XFrame.

Produced in limited quantities and priced at a lofty £300, this open-air frame abuses convention in more ways than one. It's a lot of money for a few slabs of aluminium, it doesn't offer much protection for your hardware, and it's lacking some of the basics; there are no dedicated 2.5in drive bays and no fan mounts.

Yet, somehow or other, we've developed a soft spot for everything it's trying to be. The XFrame is different, it's unique and we can think of few better ways to showcase a range of high-end components.

We see it as more of an elaborate test bed than a day-to-day chassis - we're not sure anyone would want to live with an open-air frame that lets out noise and lets in dust - and the price tag limits its appeal strictly to those who are willing to throw money toward a unique and eye-catching build.

Bottom line: We'd love to see a mainstream follow-up, but as it stands the XFrame is a lot of fun and it will turn heads, but there's no getting around the £300 elephant in the room.

The Good

Looks fantastic
Sturdy and well built
Easy to build into and customisable
Supports mATX, ATX and eATX
Has that wow factor

The Bad

Lacks 2.5in drive bays
No fan/radiator mounts
Hugely expensive

It just needs a bit of clear acrylic then you wont have dust problems and fan mounts would be available.

Are you sure Hexus didn't sponsor this?
A blue and orange X? Where have I seen…oh yeah! :)
I wanted a bit more orange, to be fair.

I'm hoping the rev 2 is closer to the HEXUS ‘X’ :P (only joking; this is an In Win-produced design with no help from us.)
I heard it comes with a “Hexus Approved” sticker ;)

(Disclaimer, it doesn't!)
cool but my kids would jam food in it. :-(
