The birth of Para-flow

The Aphros Reality, at first glance, looks like most of the techno-coloured monstrosities we've been seeing for years. Its aesthetics appeal to the hardcore gamer, but its supposedly-ground-breaking Para-flow cooling is likely to appeal to any enthusiast.

According to BEAST, the trouble with your average water-cooled setup as that the internally mounted radiators are cooled by sucking in air from outside the case, through the radiator, and into the chassis. That method has been doing the job for some time, but BEAST tells us that Para-flow goes one better.

Para-flow revolves around two radiators being installed in a specially-separated section at the front of the chassis. As shown in the below diagram, cool air is pulled in, passed over both radiators and pushed out through both sides instantly. The result is that the warm air never makes its way into the system's main section.

The third bottom-mounted radiator works in a similar fashion, too, sucking in air from the sides and blowing out of the bottom. The end result, says BEAST, is a cooling system that dissipates extreme amounts of heat from multiple heat sources in the same loop.

On paper, it's a mighty promising prospect for the hardcore enthusiast - but, as you might expect, it comes with an equally-mighty price-tag.

The Aphros Reality retails at £5,470 for the basic package, and prices begin to soar when you throw in added extras. There are, of course, finance packages that offer the system from £199 per month, but the Aphros Reality is likely to appeal only to those who have either too much money, or a severe addiction to hardcore systems.

Still, if you're seriously contemplating throwing in excess of five grand at your next system, this could be one worth considering. If not, just take a gander at the pictures on page three and dream.
