Seagate has announced availability of the 2.5in GoFlex Slim - headlined as the world's slimmest portable external hard drive - measuring in at 9mm.
Whilst the GoFlex Slim was originally debuted at CES 2011, the manufacturer tells us that the 320GB unit is now available, with an MSRP of $99.99 USD.
Sharing roughly the same svelte profile as a pencil - and apparently 38 per cent leaner than its predecessor - the GoFlex Slim is a 7,200RPM drive, featuring a USB 3.0 interface, and offering compatibility with both Mac and Windows platforms. Seagate will also bundle in, what it describes as, premium backup software and promises interchangeability between platforms without performance loss, or the requirement for re-formatting.
That isn't to say that Seagate isn't tailoring an SKU especially for Mac users. The GoFlex Slim for Mac, set to launch with an MSRP of $99.00 USD, will feature a metallic finish to blend in with Apple devices, boast HFS+ formatting and Apple Time Machine support out-of-the-box.
