It's been a little over a month since AMD launched the last release of its Catalyst software suite, and now version 8.5 is upon us.

As always, there's a long list of resolved issues and performance increases, with games such as Lost Planet said to receive 5 to 35 per cent better performance on systems containing Radeon HD 3xx0 series products.

The key new features to debut in Catalyst 8.5, are detailed by AMD as follows:

  • Catalyst Control Centre Component Video
  • ATI Graphics Driver Un-install Enhancement
  • SECAM TV Out Support
  • 1080p HDTV custom mode
  • HDMI Audio for non-standard TV modes
  • Adaptive AA on OpenGL for Catalyst Control Centre
  • 1080p24 Mode Support
  • Windows XP Service Pack 3 support

For a complete breakdown of what version 8.5 has to offer, including all the resolved issues and performance enhancements, please refer to the official release notes (PDF). If, on the other hand, you prefer to just install the latest-greatest right away, head on over to game.AMD.com, where Catalyst 8.5 is now available for both Windows and Linux users.
