We've been hearing about the 8.429GHz that was squeezed out of an AMD FX-series CPU last month, and whilst we know that extreme cooling was involved, you may be wondering which mainboard was the at the helm.

It has now emerged that it was none other than ASUS' AMD 990FX-powered Crosshair V Formula mainboard, that aided and abetted AMD in its record-breaking achievement.

It's unclear whether ASUS' offering will be part of iBUYPOWER's Guinness World Edition system, but ASUS tells us that Brian McLachlan (Chew*) - one of its TeamROG members - was part of the event.
