HP has taken the time to show off its upcoming Slate PC a few times since its CES 2010 introduction, but the world's number one PC manufacturer hasn't yet divulged the more pertinent details; namely price and specification.

Fortunately for those itching to know, Spanish technology website Clipset appears to have stepped up with all the relevant information.

According to the site's sources, HP's Slate PC will first launch in June, but won't make its European appearance until September. When it does arrive on the continent, it's expected to fetch €400 at retail.

The pricing puts it right where it needs to be - between a smartphone and a notebook, but more importantly it's likely to be cheaper than Apple's iPad.

The launch details are merely speculation at this point, but the site also provides additional hardware information. HP's Slate is said to be powered by an Intel Atom processor and will presumably run Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system. Flash support is therefore good to go, and the device will also feature a USB port, memory card reader and a built-in webcam.

We're hoping HP has a few more tricks up its sleeve, but if we're honest, we're not exactly being won over by what we've seen thus far. It does, after all, appear to be little more than a netbook repackaged as a tablet. What we really need, or want, is a Slate that offers a new experience.

It does multitasking, I'd say that's an ‘innovation’.

Yes

:D

That said, I'd want a chance to play with one first, and a lot is going to depend on the battery life, which needs to be around 8 hours for my usage. But yes, I'm definitely interested…
Surely a dual-core Atom, at the very least?

To be frank… no. The only use I would have for that is note taking, when I'd want a keyboard. When it's matured a bit though, and my needs have changed, I'd say I might be in for a slate of some kind.
I think the whole idea of slates/ipads is a duff one, certainly with the current levels of performance/price.
For £360 a single core Atom is a no-no for me. Make it under £300 & maybe you've got me interested. Selling without a license would also be good for the folk (I bet a lot of us here!) that already have XP/Win7/etc lying around.

Am I the only one that doesnt really want a huge battery life? 5hrs would do me as it'd only be used when sitting on the couch/general lazing around & wouldnt be used for more than an hour or so at a time, if that made it cheaper then I'm in :)
