ASUS will be adding a new thin-and-light notebook to its burgeoning ASUS-Lamborghini range in the form of the VX3.
Sporting an extensive use of high-end materials, including liberal sprinklings of carbon fibre, the VX3 packs in a 12.1in screen (1280x800, sadly), a Penryn-based Core 2 Duo processor, NVIDIA GeForce 9300 discrete GPU, and a 160GB hard drive as standard. Interestingly, the ASUS blurb documented that it was the only thin-and-light laptop capable of seamless DX10 gaming. We, however, are not so sure that it would be seamless - Crysis, anyone?
The sample shown above, resident at the Microsoft booth, may not be indicative of final-build quality, we were informed.
Expect it to cost around $2,499 when it goes on sale in a couple of months' time. Also expect the usual esoteric packaging that befits the luxurious laptop line.
The show model was equipped with an extended battery and, at a complete guess, weighed around 2.5kg, making it a little porky for a 12.1in thin-and-light, frankly.
It's always nice to see a manufacturer do something a little different from the norm, but the asking price, given the specifications, is a little too high, even if we factor in the 'wow' factor of a limited-run laptop.
