Ranging from $45 to $160

We've made it no secret that there is no really new news at Intel's Developer Forum in Shanghai.

All isn't lost however, though we've known about Intel's Silverthorne Atom processors since early last month, today is the day that Intel has given us Atom CPU speeds, and most importantly, prices.

At launch, estimated to be within 60 days, Intel's Atom line-up will consist of the following five CPUs:

Model Speed TDP FSB L2 cache Price (per 1,000)
Z500 800Mhz 0.65W 400MHz 512K $45
Z510 1.1GHz 2.0W 400MHz 512K $45
Z520 1.33GHz 2.0W 533MHz 512K $65
Z530 1.6GHz

2.0W

533MHz 512K $95
Z540 1.86GHz 2.4W 533MHz 512K $160

The 800MHz Z500, starting at $45 and going up to the 1.86GHz Z540 at $160, are then the Atom prices. These include the System Controller Hub (SCH), provider of integrated graphics and formerly known as Poulsbo. Together, and with Wi-Fi, they combine to make the Intel Centrino Atom platform.

The very platform that Intel hopes will be sweeping the world inside UMPCs and MIDs before we know it.

Anand Chandrasekher, Intel senior vice president and general manager of the Ultra Mobility Group said:

"Today is a historic day for Intel and the high-tech industry as we deliver our first-ever Intel Atom processor and surround it with a great package of technology. Mix in the incredible innovation coming from our fellow device makers and software vendors, and we will change the way consumers will come to know and access the World Wide Web. These forthcoming MIDs, and some incredible longer-term plans our customers are sharing with us, will show how small devices can deliver a big Internet experience."

1.6ghz and 2W TDP… WOW!!! :D
btw it's Poulsbo, not Paulsbo :)

(don't worry, you aren't the only ones to make the mistake)

Apparently, the Poulsbo IGP will only consume about 120mW during H.264 decode. So you could have a complete HD decoding, general purpose HTPC system that only consumes a few watts of power.

Actually you could probably get it down to 2.5Watts total. It can then be powered over USB :D
Why is there such a price difference between the Z530 (1.6GHz - $95) and the Z540 (1.86GHz - $160) ? Is it because Intel are finding it hard to get chips that can hit 1.86GHz, the fact that they just whack a premium on the top chip or… ?
