Microsoft Azure and AMD have expanded their partnership in cloud-based enterprise instances with the general availability of the new Azure D-series and E-series virtual machines, powered by AMD EPYC 7452 processors and the preview of the Azure NVv4 VM powered by 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processors and Radeon Instinct GPUs.
The EPYC powered Azure Da and Ea series virtual machines are now generally available and are the fastest Azure virtual machines in their class, providing up to 96 vCPUs, 672GB DDR4 RAM and 2.4TB of SSD-based temporary storage. The Ea-series virtual machines also offers 22 percent better performance per dollar than competitive virtual machines for database workloads.
The Microsoft Azure NVv4 virtual machines; the first Windows Azure virtual desktop supported by 2nd gen AMD EPYC processors and Radeon Instinct accelerators, are now open for preview. These VMs deliver a full GPU workstation experience for a wide variety of cloud computing scenarios. They include passive cooling and AMD MultiGPU hardware virtualisation technology conforming with the SR-IOV (Single Root I/O Virtualization) industry standard and introduces GPU partitioning across four new options. This gives customers greater flexibility, enabling the entire enterprise to enjoy dedicated CPU/GPU virtual desktops, delivering the best application experience regardless of the workloads
