Motorola must be cursing Google this morning as headlines dominated by news of the new Android operating system has taken precedence over the unveiling of its latest smartphone, the Motorola RAZR.

Nonetheless, this is definitely a phone worth shouting about. Measuring just 7.1mm and weighing 127g, the RAZR is the slimmest smarthphone in the word and sports a tough chassis built from KEVLAR fiber. It also features water repellent nanocoating that protects the phone against water spills.

The RAZR is completely different to past RAZR models, running Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, sporting a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a qHD resolution of 540x960 and a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor.

This smartphone will support high speed 4G LTE networks for data connectivity and offer HD quality video chat. Sporting an 8-megapixel camera, it also supports Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi support.

The 8-megapixel image HD camera on the rear comes with 1080p HD video recording capability and image stabilization technology for clear and crisp imagery. Besides that, this smartphone contains GPS chip, Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi support, as well as an impressive 1780mAh battery.

The phone will sport a new Blue Blur custom user interface and come pre-loaded with the company’s Smart Actions app which will allow users to "automate daily tasks" and improve battery life. The RAZR will also feature the Motocast application that allows users to stream music, photos, videos and documents to the phone from the cloud.

• Moto ACTV compatibility
• 4G LTE via Verizon

The RAZR will support 4G LTE via Verizon and come with 16GB onboard memory and 16GB memory card bundled with it. It’s set to launch in the US in November, priced at $299 with a two-year contract or $600 for the phone without a contract. Pre-orders kick off on October 27th.

Apart from the lack of Android 4.0 and the slightly smaller screen, the Motorola RAZR looks to be an impressively sturdy beast. The RAZR brand was once fashionable when Motorola released its series of smart clam-shell phones in 2004 , but the brand lost ground and market share when it introduced cheaper models while the likes of iPhone and BlackBerry took over with their innovative touch-screen interfaces. With this new re-branding though, it looks like the RAZR could be back with a vengeance.

Got to wonder why they launched a 2.3.5 android phone on the day ICS came out? They must have know it would be out today… Shouldn't they have bought the launch forward a few days to at least give it a chance?
Also you might want to check the spelling of ‘smartphone’ in this line editor:

Blue Blur…. Wonder what crappy joys this will bring - more like issues.
There is this:

But 2012 seems a while to wait. Do Motorola put their own front-end on? If not, I can't see a reason for the delay…
To get or not to get?
