Desirable?

HTC's latest iteration of its best-selling Desire smartphone is listed as costing £420 on Amazon's website.

The Desire S, which debuted at MWC is due to be released on 18 April, according to the e-tailer.

Listed on the page for the unlocked handset are details about the handset by HTC, which said: "Take the best and make it better. Better browsing, better camera resolution and latest HTC Sense experience," although HEXUS forum users do not seem to be terribly excited by the latest release.

As well as the previously-announced 3.7 inch screen with 400 x 800 resolution, 5MP camera, video calling and faster web browsing, HTC said the handset includes a DNLA connection, HD video recorder and interestingly, maps that are stored on the handset meaning no waiting or roaming fees.

While the listed price of £419.99 might not sound too steep for the spec, Amazon browsers can pick up an HTC Desire HD PAYG for just £382.06, while those moaning that the S model of the Desire adds relatively little to the original, might be interested in the standard Desire, which currently costs just £334.99.

As the HD model offers an 8MP camera, surround sound and a bigger screen than the new Desire S, one might speculate e that the PAYG price of the new Desire S handset will probably tumble.
