Training - yawn

I’ve never enjoyed the training aspect of boxing games but, if you want to beat the best, you’ll have to put it some hard graft. Training is a fairly unexciting part of the game. You’ll choose from the standard weight lifting exercises, combo dummy, and heavy bag. Each training routine will add something to some of your skills, whilst taking points away from others. For example, if you choose speed training you’ll lose points in strength, and vice-versa.

You’ll need to hire a coach for all of your training and, initially, you won’t be able to afford a professional to help improve your skills. You can skip training and choose auto-train, which will increase your chosen skills by 50%. The training area doesn’t really improve on previous Fight Night instalments, it feels like you’re just going through the motions, and it soon becomes repetitive and boring.

On a positive note, there is now an option to spar with a partner, so you can practise those uppercuts and hooks to your hearts content.

After training you have the chance to head to the ‘Fight Store’ to purchase upgrades. You can use the money gained in fights to purchase all sorts of things to aid your progress. Buy new gloves which add punching power, new boots for speed, new shorts for errr…comfort and even tattoos so you look as ‘hard as nails’ in the ring. There are plenty of things to choose from and, there’s not much else to spend your money on, so buy the best when you can.

You'll constantly be unlocking new gear, so it's an enjoyable visit whenever you get the chance.
