Drat, drat and double drat

Wacky Races Crash and Dash biggest problem is the actual racing itself. A racing game should at least require some skill to win, but fate is often taken out of your hands here by the other racers who spring their abilities on you just when you’ve gained pole position.

Each race also has a very strange conclusion where control is totally taken out of your hands and the AI takes over. During this short sequence, you need to blow as fast as possible into the DS microphone in order to sprint to the finish. At this point, I often found myself in 7th or 8th position, but quite easily could blow my way to 3rd or 4th with little effort. It’s pointless, totally pointless.

Wacky Races Crash and Dash is fun for half an hour or so. It’s fun to see all the characters and vehicles and watch some of their abilities play out. It’s even nostalgic seeing Dastardly and Muttley up to their old tricks.

In truth though, it’s only the overall Wacky Races theme that prevents this racer from being a total disaster.

Pros
Looks okay, some good cut-scenes with Dick Dastardly
The Wacky Races theme is cool

Cons
This isn’t a racing game. Anyone can win.
Mini-games are boring and repetitive
No multiplayer

"Drat, drat, and double drat!" (3.5/10)

Wacky Races just keeps popping up. Bit of a classic franchise that has hit virtually every system since the Commodore 64. Dreamcast version has been my favourite incarnation to date. Nice to see that they actually keep the classic cartoon alive in this way.

Has the dreamcast version too and it was pretty good. Although the down side is it is just a simple racing game with the same characters and same music and sound effects. So nothing new here, just a version for the DS, but is it any better than Mario Kart??? Doubt it.
