Codemaster's flagship racing title just gets better and better. The Colin McRae experience reached a new level of realism in Colin McRae: DiRT, with stunning locations, remarkable physics, believable damage-modeling, and an all-together bumpier and more realistic rally experience. If you're on the lookout for a complete racing sim then Forza 3 will be top of your list this year, but if you're pining for a stylish, arcade racer that offers rewarding, challenging and satisfyingly speedy gameplay then DiRT 2 could well satisfy those cravings when it arrives on September 11, 2009 on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, PSP and PC.

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will feature a roster of contemporary off-road events, taking players to the most diverse and challenging real-world environments. The World Tour will have players competing in aggressive multi-car and intense solo races at new locations, from canyon racing and jungle trails to city stadium-based events. Overall, there will be approximately 100 events, including multi-vehicle races and solo challenges, set across a variety of different terrains. From the muddy tracks of the Malaysian rainforest to spectator-packed stadiums in London and Los Angeles DiRT 2 will feature a number of contemporary off-road race disciplines covering Rallycross, Trailblazer, Raid, Landrush, and Rally.

Embracing the culture and new heroes of modern off-road racing, DiRT 2 will feature a line-up of the best new rally drivers - including the multi medal-winning Subaru Rally Team USA driver Ken Block alongside Travis Pastrana, Dave Mirra and Tanner Faust. The single player campaign will feature a structured career progression similar to the one in DiRT, as you travel to different locations on the map building up your reputation as an ace rally driver. In the list of improvements this year, Codemasters has talked about improved graphics that will push each system to its limit, better car handling and improved physical modelling of the environment, alongside an enhanced version of the instant replay ‘Flashback’ feature that we saw in GRID.

By far the biggest improvement though, will be the online game modes. The previous game disappointingly had us racing alone on the tracks competing for the best point-to-point times against 99 invisible online competitors. Codemasters has listened to disgruntled members and have addressed that issue in DiRT 2, which will feature head-to-head competitive online play and new social features. That feature alone should ensure that we're in for the best McRae game to date.

We’re hoping to go hands-on with Colin McRae DiRT 2 very shortly.
