Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2016

As we expected, the world will see the next flagship Samsung Galaxy smartphones revealed just ahead of the MWC 2016 in Barcelona. Today Samsung published its Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2016 Invitation teaser video with the hashtag #TheNextGalaxy. The video description teases us that we should "Get ready to rethink what a phone can do," and prominently features a VR headset.

On the official Samsung News blog details of the Unpacked event were confirmed as follows:

  • Date: February 21 (Sun) 19:00 CET (Doors Open at 18:00)
  • Venue Address: CCIB (Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona)

If you wish to watch the presentation live, and aren't attending in person, you can go to one of two web destinations; 'Unpacked' will be live streamed on YouTube, and on the Samsung Newsroom site.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge renders revealed

If you can't wait to see what the latest and greatest Samsung Galaxy flagships look like - you don't have to as @evleaks has published a couple of sets of renders of the new pair of smartphones. With the newly published images Evan Blass updated his early January post on VentureBeat about what users should expect from the upcoming Samsung smartphones. We simplified those assertions, mixed with information from other sources, as a bullet point list and I have slightly updated those points and reproduced them below:

  • Display: 5.1-inch Super-AMOLED with 1440 x 2650 pixel resolution (or 5.5-inch for the Edge), glancable content
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, or Samsung Exynos 8890 (octa-core) depending upon your region
  • RAM: 4GB LPDDR4
  • Internal Storage: 16, 32, 64GB UFS 2.0 flash memory models, +microSD card slot for storage expansion
  • Camera: 12MP back-facing camera with 4K video recording abilities, dual-LED flash, f1.7 aperture lens and larger pixels should improve low light photographic quality. No camera lens 'hump'
  • Front-facing camera: 8-megapixel
  • Battery: 3,000mAh and 3,600mAh for the S7 and S7 edge respectively. 2 hour and 2.2 hour wireless charging to full respectively.
  • Dimensions: 143.4 x 70.8 x 6.9mm
  • Operating System: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • Special Features: Fingerprint scanner, Force Touch pressure-sensitive panel (under display), Corning Gorilla Glass 5 front and back panels, water and dust resistance, curved glass edges on rear, similar to Galaxy Note 5, USB Type-C connector

Samsung is becoming apple. That s7 edge looks almost identical to s6 edge ;X
There's only so much you can do with a front facing slab of glass, rounded corners and buttons.

I just wish they would get rid of the capacitive back/app buttons.

It's quite a lot larger than the s6 edge.
……ONLY if that camera could beat the one in a SONY Z4.
……ONLY if it could be water proof.
Wait, I hope there is a normal sized Edge. I like my S6 edge size. I'm done with Phablets.
