Errr... w00t!
It seems that U.S. dictionaries are the first to recognise and appreciate what we web-savvy refer to as "l33t speak". Using numbers to represent certain letters is becoming all the more common, particularly among gamers and if I were to say "h0w d1d u m4n1g3 to h4x m3 l1k3 th4t?", you'd probably know what I mean!
Merriam-Webster has decided to acknowledge the existence of such language and following its Word of the Year poll, taking place on its website, the results are in and w00t is indeed word of the year. Though not yet included in its regular dictionary, it is now part of Merriam-Webster's open dictionary.
w00t! I won the contest!
Other words making the top ten words of the year included facebook, conundrum, quixotic, blamestorm, sardoodledom, apathetic, Pecksniffian, hypocrite and charlatan.
Won't be long now until l33t speak rulez 411!
