Flickr places offers users the opportunity to browse photos based on location. Having previously added geotagging functionality, Flickr now boasts "nearly 50 million geotagged photos".

With such a library in place, Places provides a unique and interesting way to browse the images and is available now at flickr.com/places.

Speaking on the official Flickr blog, Reverend Dan Catt said "As we began to use the first prototype, we all spent an awful lot of time gazing at the amazing photos that kept appearing on our screens. Instant messages would go flying back and forwards amongst the team, saying things like “oooh, look at Shanghai“, “what about Reykjavík then?” and “check out the Calatrava in Valencia!!”

"We knew we were on to something good because we couldn’t help ourselves from pausing to enjoy using this new way to see photos on Flickr. We found images we would never have come across any other way, from Flickr members literally all over the world busily capturing what they see."

I can see exactly what he means too, having spent the last 15 minutes browsing Flickr places, I'm already absorbed. Not to mention intrigued at the number of photos originating from my home village of Albrighton.
