Lest we forget

Take a look at the HEXUS homepage and you will notice an image of a red poppy that links to The Poppy Appeal.

For those of you who aren't fully cognisant of its deeper meaning, the poppy is emblematic of Remembrance Day - observed by a two-minute silence during the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month - which commemorates the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces - with specific respect to World War 1.

Most of us are fortunate enough not to give our freedom a second thought, but, at the cost of lecturing, the price of this very freedom was paid for by the loss of millions of lives.

There are countless charities and good causes that are worthy of your benevolence, and in this day and age of mass-media saturation by non-profit organisations that can afford to spread the word, certain great deeds are inevitably left behind.

Far be it for me to tell you how to spend your money, dear reader, but the next time you see a senior citizen brandishing a poppy-laden box, just give a little.... because their kin gave a whole lot more.

It isn't just the soldiers of the past we should be reminded to remember - the ones we currently have deployed get fairly poor treatment by the public of this country.

I agree with the message, but I'm still a bit uncomfortable having such things on Hexus.
I think we need to remember those who have lost their lives, or had their lives impacted upon with the loss, or injury of loved ones during wartime. This includes previous conflicts as well as ones which we are reminded of daily in the news.
DeSean,

It's just my own personal viewpoint that I've stuck on the first page. It's not designed to be preachy in the slightest, and it's the first time I've made such a thematic posting in over 5 years.

If it makes one more person think a second or two longer about the kind of hardships that were endured - and still are being endured - in the name of liberty, then it's done its job.
bravo to Hexus for reminding people about this very worthy cause
