The news

Personal audio specialist Maxfield is launching in November what it claims is the world's fastest sat-nav system. Perhaps more significant than speed, the MAX-TRACK also includes maps for all of western Europe, though not all can be stored at one time on the supplied 1GB SD card.

The MAX-TRACK - likely price as yet unknown - runs on the Windows CE 5.0 OS and carries a 400MHz Samsung chip that's said to be faster than the processor in any competing product currently available.

Maps are displayed on a 3.5in/320x240 pixels TFT touch-screen and spoken directions come from built in speakers or via optional headphones. The display is said to offer a clear view, even in bright sunlight, making it suitable for walking and cycling, not just driving.

Power comes from a 2200 mA/h lithium-ion battery and overall weight is 260g.

In addition to the sat-nav device and SD card, the bundle is said to include a 12V charger for car cigarette lighters, plus a car-mounting kit, a USB SD card reader for connecting to a PC, a quick-start guide and a DVD-ROM carrying software, a full manual and all mapping info.
