Think about travelling at 178.5mph. Pretty fast, ain't it? Now, imagine doing it blind, being alone in control of the vehicle. That's what Mike Newman did recently, achieving an average speed of 167.32mph to beat his existing blind land speed record.

Of course, Mike had the aid of computer gadgetry, provided by the likes of Scan, to keep him on the right track, but his feat is amazing regardless.

We hope you'll join HEXUS in congratulating Mike, who is dedicating his record breaking feat to VISION 2020, a charity which aims to eradicate all preventable blindness by the year 2020.

Mike Newman

After speeding his way to the new blind land speed record, Mike spoke a little about VISION 2020 and why it was so important to him: "Not enough is done to help the visual impaired communities around the world. In many cases, increasing the levels of Vitamin A in a child’s diet or a simple cataract operation would transform a life. I hope this record draws increased attention to this very important global issue."

Once again, congratulations to Mike.

Are you sure someone just didn't hold a fan in front of him and get a couple of mates to rock the car?

J/k, good on him :)
