Microsoft to become one-stop-shop

Microsoft is set to open a retail rivalry with nemesis Apple, as the software giant announces it hopes to open its first dedicated Microsoft shop in Scottsdale, Arizona on Windows 7 launch day, October 22.

Microsoft's new corporate VP of retail stores, David Porter, said in a statement customers had told the software giant "they want more choice, more value, and better service, and that's what we'll deliver through our Microsoft Stores."

When Microsoft announced it would be moving into the retail space earlier this year, the firm also said it planned to take a bite out of Apple by positioning its shops as close as possible to its rival.

Apple stores have been a driving factor in the firm's success, with helpful assistants and technical staff on hand to help punters part with their cash and answer questions on core issues surrounding the purchase of new Apple flavoured products. Microsoft has finally realised it needs to do the same if it hopes to win over consumers and sell more kit, and says it will have its own help counter to rival Apple's Genius Bar.

Along with an array of PCs, Microsoft also plans to sell Xbox hardware, games, Zune music players, and even screens, with the Arizona shop boasting a massive 96-inch screen for potential customers to play on.

If all goes to plan in Arizona, the next Microsoft retail space will open in Mission Viejo, California soon after.

96" screen? Why don't they just sell TFT wallpaper while they're at it.
Wonder what make the screeens will be that they will sell. I see this as a good idea by Mocrosoft. Be a welcome to see some proper Microsoft shops able to offer face to face advise. Lets face it you don't get proper advise from PC world staff.!!
