According to Twitter fan blog Twitterati: "While it's not quite the multi-column world of TweetDeck, Seesmic and HootSuite, it is yet another indication that Twitter is moving from hardening its infrastructure to making its service more user-friendly in terms of UI and usability."

It believes it is hard to imagine that by improving Twitter.com itself, that third party services have also been improved, but acknowledged the site is attracting new users who will no doubt enjoy the improved aesthetics and usability.

Twitter's CEO Evan Williams said the micro blogging site's mobile users have soared by 250 percent in a year and 37,000 new accounts are created every day, 16 percent of which signed up via a mobile, Tech Crunch reported.

Traffic to the main site has reportedly grown by 100 percent this year with users generating 90m tweets every day.

As for the 'blue whale of problems' which has been cropping up for users increasingly frequently recently as the site is swamped, Twitter said it has "rebuilt things. We can tackle those efforts for now".

Google has been offering real-time Twitter updates within its search results in recent months after reaching a deal with the Twitter to include users' updates in its search results and the updates have been built into the new Goggle Instant.

The blog said: "Real-time updates like those on Twitter have appeared not only as a way for people to communicate their thoughts and feelings, but also as an interesting source of data about what is happening right now in regard to a particular topic."
