London, UK, 23 March, 2011 – Cisco has received two red dot design awards for the Flip MinoHD™ video camera and the Linksys E4200™ wireless router for outstanding product design. Being one of the most renowned international product design competitions, the red dot awards are organised annually by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany. This year, designers and companies from 60 countries submitted 4,433 products to the red dot award category ‘product design’.

Awarded: Linksys E4200
The award-winning Linksys E4200 is the latest and most advanced member of the Linksys E-series family, with speeds of up to 450Mbps offering the power needed for HD video streaming on wireless devices throughout the home – such as laptops, iPads®, internet-enabled TVs, Blu-ray® players, and game consoles. The E4200 has been crafted by the Cisco Consumer design teams in Denmark and California and is built on a single, thin floating plane. Its design helps conceal cables and ports and the flashing LED lights on the back of the product can be turned off to allow for a calmer environment.

Awarded: Flip MinoHD
The small and stylish design of the MinoHD makes it fit perfectly into every pocket or purse. The design, with its classy black skin resembling brushed metal, strictly follows the Flip Video concept of uncompromising user-friendliness with the red recording button being the central element of the interface. Thanks to the integrated USB arm and easy to use FlipShare™ software precious moments can be shared with friends and family by e-mail or Facebook ™ and Youtube ™.

Chris Landry, senior director, design and experience for Cisco Consumer Products, said: “We are proud that we have been honoured with two red dot design awards. It proves that we are on the right path with our design philosophy. Design has become an integral element in our product development process ensuring that the product not only works great but also fits the environment and is easy to use. We see more and more consumer technology products making their way into the living room from office type environments, clearly demanding different design standards, from product design but definitely also from a usability point of view.”

Award ceremony and design exhibition
Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award, said: “Design quality has asserted itself clearly in the judging process, with genuine and new creative solutions also being rewarded. Both of these criteria are not just yardsticks for good design, but also for the potential for success on the market. This potential is increased several times over by the targeted use of our renowned design award.” More than 1,000 guests from the world of design, industry, society and media will celebrate the winners of the red dot design awards on 4 July 2011, which traditionally takes place in Essen’s opera house, the Aalto Theater. Subsequently, the Flip MinoHD will then be put on public display during a four-week special exhibition in the red dot design museum.
