CPU Tests
Running the latest Blender benchmark on the taxing, lengthy Victor test reveals a couple of truths. It's clear the Threadripper Pro 3975WX is faster than the Ryzen 9 5950X by around 35 per cent. This is to be expected as it has double the cores and threads but a lower peak boost speed of 4.2GHz versus 4.9GHz.
What's more interesting is what happens when you run the same test on the GPU. The RTX 3080 FE completes it in just 83 seconds, which is over three times as fast as the 3975WX. Interestingly, the Radeon Pro W5700 can't run the GPU test.
Moving on to more familiar ground where the CPU rules, the R23 benchmarks are illuminating. As we remarked above, the single-thread performance isn't as robust - it is 25 per cent slower - but having more cores at its disposal leads to impressive multi-thread results.
The same is true in the KeyShot 10 benchmark, where the TR Pro 3975WX is 65 per cent quicker. A word to the wise: an RTX 3080 reports a 77.63 score. If you can run it on the GPU, do so.
Following a similar vein that illustrates the benefits of a many-core CPU, the latest Ryzen Pro series, based on the older Zen 2 architecture, outmuscle the latest desktop counterparts.
