Test Setup and Benchmarks I

Luckily I was actually building a full system at the time, so was able to test both boards using brand new parts.

ABIT KX7-333 + ABIT KD7-RAID (HPT372 disabled)
AMD AthlonXP 2100+ CPU (1733Mhz)
256Mb TwinMOS PC2700 DDR (Default timings)
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4200 64Mb (250Mhz Core, 500Mhz Memory)
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 60.0Gb HDD

As far as software and drivers were concerned..

Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3
Via 4 in 1 Service Pack 4.43
NVIDIA Detonator 40.72 WHQL
Microsoft DirectX 8.1
3Dmark 2001SE
Unreal Tournament 2003 Demo
SiSoft Sandra 2003

For both systems, the memory was run at 166Mhz (PC2700) with all timings set to default.

Benchamrks I

3Dmark 2001SE

The difference here is almost 900 3dmarks – a rather substantial increase for the tweaker, but not really that noticeable in the real world. It does show then when it comes to Mad Onions popular graphics benchmark, the KT400 chipset has the edge.
