Notes

There were no operational problems to report during a weekend of testing. We'll be comparing the SavRow Razor 1.7's performance against a couple of desktop-replacement heavyweights from Voodoo PC and Rock, respectively. We reckon it' fair to do so considering the Razor's impressive base specification, especially the MR 9700 graphics adapter which runs at 446MHz core and 500MHz DDR memory.

The 9700 nomenclature isn't quite accurate. If you want to appreciate the subtleties of ATI's M11 GPU, Ryszard took a succint look at it here.

We'll also be looking at gaming benchmarks with the Razor 1.7 run in mains and battery mode. We want to see just what kind of performance hit a slower CPU imposes. POWERPLAY, however, was disabled so that benchmarks can be compared on a like-for-like basis with the other two laptops. We also installed modified Catalyst 4.1 drivers via DriverHeaven's excellent Mobile Modder tool.

That's the Razor in full-blown mains mode. A P M 1.7GHz is the fastest Banias-based processor available. We hanker for the 2.0GHz 133MHz FSB Dothan though.

The multiplier is knocked down to 6x in maximum battery mode.
