External Appearance - Edges

Left edge

Down the left hand edge we've got the yellow S-Video output port, tray loading Quanta SDW-041 DVD+RW drive with volume control above, IrDA port (repeated elsewhere on the chassis, more on that soon), Type II PC-Card slot and multimedia card reader just above it. My preferred PC-Card slot position is on the right hand side, but it's down to personal preference.

Rear edge

Moving round to the rear, we have clustered ports for dialup modem and the RTL8169 GigE, the power connector input port, parallel port and 15-pin VGA output. Everything else is an exhaust vent, with a Kensington lock port on the far left as you look at that picture. The large exhaust ports on the left of the picture are shared output for graphics module and CPU heat. Click here for a closeup shot of the rear edge ports.

Right edge

The right hand edge holds USB2.0 connectivity, a single unpowered FireWire400 port, plus the audio ports, which includes S/PDIF output. The large exhaust ports on the right hand of the picture are chiefly for CPU heat. You can just about see the copper heatsink through the holes.
