Review: MSI GT725 notebook: gaming power to go?

The fine line between desktop and notebook PCs continues to blur, and the interminable transition to one-stop mobile devices is quickly gathering pace.

However, if there's one area that hasn't yet taken off in mobile form, it's high-end gaming. Traditionally constrained to an over-sized desktop machine with thousands of pounds of extreme components, it's a market that doesn't bode well for mobility.

That isn't to say the industry isn't trying, though. Earlier this year, AMD raised the bar for notebook graphics with the introduction of its ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4000 series. Fast forward to today and we've one of the world's first notebooks to utilise an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4850 GPU - the MSI GT725.

In the enthusiast circle, this 17in mobile powerhouse would be referred to as a beast. Priced at around £1,125, it's targeting the gamer who needs every last ounce of mobile frame rate performance, so, let's see what this beast can do.
