3DMark is the latest version of this hugely-popular synthetic benchmark. Making use of DX11 features such as tessellation, compute shaders and multi-threading, it provides modern-day results and is available as a free download.

As you might have guessed, this is going to be neck-and-neck between the Galax GTX 980 SOC and the Gigabyte GTX 980 G1 Gaming. Both are shipped with boost clocks of 1,329MHz, but as we know, the numbers on the box aren't always what's reflected in real-world use.

During our benchmarks, the Gigabyte card would scale to 1,380MHz, while the Galax hovered around the 1,353MHz mark. Not a lot in it, but the Gigabyte does have the advantage. Not a Ā£70-extra advantage, mind you, but an advantage nonetheless.
