3DMark is the latest version of this hugely-popular synthetic benchmark. Making use of DX11 features such as tessellation, compute shaders and multi-threading, it provides modern-day results and is available as a free download.

We know Asus has been conservative with Strix's frequencies by only pushing up the core by six per cent. That may be the case, but Strix's performance resides in lofty company, sandwiched between the GeForce GTX 780 Ti and GTX Titan GPUs.

GTX 970 is more than just a refined pusher of pixels. Nvidia's memory-compression technology enables the Strix GPU to strut its stuff in the 3DMark Vantage colour fill test.
