Benchmarks II

On this page I've concentrated on some newer benchmarks that I've only just got hold of namely DroneZ and Aquamark.

DroneZ

You've seen the pictures on the previous page now lets see how it runs. There are lots and lots of settings for the graphics for DroneZ I stuck to the pre set settings so that I could at least repeat the tests without getting completely swamped in the different settings. Click here for more DroneZ information here

DroneZ on GeForce3 on GeForce3 Bump setting

DroneZ 640*480 800*600 1024*768 1280*1024 1600*1200
min 54.84 51.59 34.65 22.4 16.38
max 428 420.16 382.24 252 219.56
avg 115.63 107 94.33 75.73 59.76

DroneZ on GeForce3 on GeForce3 Bump HQ setting

DroneZ 640*480 800*600 1024*768 1280*1024 1600*1200
min 46 41.87 22.14 13.13 9.17
max 395.64 389 383 262.74 220.34
avg 112.69 101.96 86.61 68.33 53.33

DroneZ on GeForce3 on GeForce2 Bump setting

I decided to do a comparison between the old and the new, I set DroneZ to the GeForce2 Bump setting in the video options and ran the benchmark then I installed the GeForce2 Ultra with the same settings, the table and graph below show the results. I've had to put the Graph in a vertical orientation because it just got to wide to fit on the page.

GeForce3 640*480 GF3 800*600 GF3 1024*768 GF3 1280*1024 GF3 1600*1200 GF3
avg 76.91 76.87 74.42 71.66 64.89
max 443.56 440 406.59 257 212
min 35.54 34.97 35.47 35.47 30.97

GeForce2 640*480 GF2 800*600 GF2 1024*768 GF2 1280*1024 GF2 1600*1200 GF2
avg 76.98 75.3 74.29 67.18 58.96
max 442 432 352 231.77 159.72
min 35.5 35.5 35.47 31.43 17.94

As you can see from the figures the GeForce 3 beats the GeForce2 Ultra in every resolution above 640*480. This shows that even without the new features enabled the GeForce3 still beats the best GeForce2 around.

Aquamark

In the control panel for Aquamark there are very few settings which makes it easy to do the benchmarks, basically there are options for using the Pixel Shader and for turning the texture size up or down, by default if a GeForce 3 is installed in the PC Pixel Shader is turned on, The resolution can also be changed I ran all the common resolutions in 32 bit colour I also ran the test with no pixel shader turned on this way I could compare the GeForce2 Ultra against the GeForce3.

No Pixel Shader 24MB textures

GeForce2 640*480 800*600 1024*768 1280*1024 1600*1200
min 10.5 10.5 10.5 9.4 7.3
max 39.4 38.2 35.9 31.8 29.4
avg 20.6 20.6 20.3 17.2 13.4

GeForce3 640*480 800*600 1024*768 1280*1024 1600*1200
min 26.8 24.1 21.4 16.2 11.8
max 61.5 61.1 48.3 39.4 32.8
avg 41.9 38.2 32.2 25 19.2

Pixel Shader 24MB Textures

24MB Textures 640*480 800*600 1024*768 1280*1024 1600*1200
min 28 24.5 21.2 16 11.7
max 66.7 58 52.6 40.8 37.1
avg 44.4 40.2 33.9 25.8 20

Pixel Shader 40MB Textures

40MB Textures 640*480 800*600 1024*768 1280*1024 1600*1200
min 27.8 24.2 20.7 15.8 11.1
max 63.4 57.2 52.1 42.1 35.7
avg 44.4 40.1 33.8 25.3 19.8

There isn't much different in the results at all really regardless of 24MB or 40MB textures, but obviously the scenes look better with the 40MB textures, so virtually no slow down and better graphics is definitely good.

It will be interesting to see the game once it does come out as there are very few underwater based games about at the moment and this is something a little different to the average game release. For more details on the game visit Aquanox.de
