Palit 8800GT 512MB Sonic

Moving on to the Palit 8800GT 512MiB Sonic now

As we mentioned earlier, Palit match ECS in overclocking its GeForce 8800 GT to GTS 512 clock speeds of 650/1,620/1,900MHz (core/shaders/memory), but has chosen a more traditional active-cooling solution.

Featuring an 80mm fan enshrouded by aluminium fins, the heatsink cools both the core and memory, takes up two slots and, unlike the ECS, shouldn’t run into any compatibility problems. The heatsink design vents its heat back into the case, so good case airflow will be important.

Again, the card requires the use of a single six-pin PCIe power connector. The VRMs' aluminium heatsink should receive some airflow generated by the fan to keep it cool. The 512MiB GDDR3 memory, on the other hand, is covered by aluminium heatspreaders that direct heat to the main heatsink fin assembly.

The backplate features two HDCP-compliant, dual-link DVI ports, as well as the obligatory TV-out. There's also a S/PDIF input, availed via a bundled cable. The backplate features ventilation holes, although they're unlikely to exhaust much of the heat from the case, though. The dual-slot bracket will provide a sturdier mount to the case than the ECS card.
