What you get

Intel seems happiest in releasing processors for the retail channel in, you guessed it, full retail form.

One brand-new Intel Celeron 2.8GHz processor with 128kb L2 cache (associativity isn't mentioned, BTW) running off a 100MHz FSB (only quad-pumped bus is mentioned).

Intel's standard plastic insert which houses the cooler and CPU. The Celeron 2.8GHz model outputs around 68w, and Intel bundles in a standard aluminium-bottomed cooler with a pre-attached black TIM. There's also a booklet that serves as a brief installation guide and highlights the limited 3-year processor warranty.

Pertinent information is contained on the box's label. Our sample was a SL77T stepping that was packed on the 16th October 2003. Intel's own brief specification list can be found here.

The very familiar form of a Socket-478 processor. What we can't see is lopping off of 13-million transistors when compared to the Northwood core. We can guess that's where the extra L2 cache resides.
