All four of AMD's Phenom II parts have an advantage over Intel's Core 2 Quads in terms of memory bandwidth, and the AM3 platforms edge out the older AM2+ alternatives due to the benefits of quicker DDR3. Intel's Core i7 stands alone.

In terms of memory latency between platforms, the latest Phenom II chip remains roughly 19 per cent slower than Intel's Core 2 Quads. The Core i7 920, once again, is the runaway leader.

The Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition provides the fastest stock-clocked HEXUS.PiFast time we've ever seen from an AMD part - though, that's no real surprise considering the record was previously held by the erstwhile Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition.

What's interesting is that the latest Phenom II processor is beaten only by Intel's high-end-and-pricey Core 2 Quad Q9650. It's a strong showing so far.
