It's no secret that HEXUS, along with thousands of consumers, isn't too happy about the so-called Ultimate Extras available to users of Microsoft's Windows Vista Ultimate operating system.

The problem, quite simply, is that there aren't enough Ultimate Extras available - and some would argue that those currently on offer aren't what we'd call "Ultimate" at all.

Nonetheless, Microsoft rolled out two additional half-hearted Extras in April 2008, and it's now following that up with the launch of three all-new exclusive releases for Windows Vista Ultimate users. We can feel your excitement, so here's what's on offer:

  • Microsoft Tinker: Microsoft Tinker is a casual game that provides players with short puzzle game play sessions set in a warm, calming environment.
  • Ultimate Extras Sounds from Microsoft Tinker: Based on the positive feedback we received from the release of additional Windows Sound Schemes in April, we've integrated the unique audio sounds from Microsoft Tinker into a new sound scheme.
  • Windows DreamScene Content Pack #4: adds three additional nature-setting Windows DreamScenes.

Not exactly mind blowing, and we'd call it two new releases ourselves - taking the sounds from Tinker and making a new sound-scheme isn't much of an extra, we feel. The new releases are available via Windows Update, and the still-growing list of Windows Vista Ultimate Extras now looks something like this:

  • Windows DreamScene (and additional content packs)
  • Language Packs
  • BitLocker and EFS Enhancements
  • Hold 'Em Poker game
  • Tinker game
  • Windows Sound Schemes

Microsoft's Chris Flores adds that the software giant "will be shipping new Windows Ultimate Extras in the near future". At this rate, the above list could grow to a whopping 10 Ultimate Extras before the launch of Windows 7.

Pointless waste of time tbh. The only marginally good thing ever to be released is the BitLocker enhancements.
Damn how does M$ do it… provide so much excellent value at every turn for us lucky few blessed with enough sense to buy ultimate for the extra goodies…. :angst:

It just goes to prove what a bunch of lame brained :censored: M$ have working in their sales and marketing department! They should have never bothered releasing ultimate they should have bundeled all this crep in with Home Premium!
Aaah, I knew there was something missing in my life. I can finally go to Alcoholics anonymous and for the first time say “I didnt have a drink today, I played Tinker”
