Computex 2005: HEXUS rocks Taipei

Now many scientists will bang on about plate tectonics and continental drift, plates of solid rock floating on a bed of magma and all that, but we all know the real reason that Taipei was quivering tonight.

At approximately 1am, Taiwan was rocked by HEXUS’ presence at Computex 2005, though it is claimed by others that this was in fact a small earthquake. For roughly 5 seconds, the very ground Taipei stands on was shaken causing a sensation not unlike a session with Mr Love himself, Rys…. though lasting slightly longer than he does, or so I’m told.

Sitting in the Lounge Bar, Taipei, putting the world to rights, Paul Dutton says “Oh, was it an earthquake… I thought it was those rather large whiskies kicking in…. “.

ABIT have reported that Jonathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel has challenged the Earth’s crust to a ‘Quake death-match.

Officials for Computex were unavailable to comment on HEXUS’ effect on the bedrock of their island, but it is believed that even if we asked them, us not speaking Chinese and them not speaking Engkish could mean our questions are answered by being given directions to the 101, the world’s tallest building which, sited here in Taipei, is still swaying.

And just in case, given the reaction to the light-hearted Zalman report I posted, we did indeed have an earthquake that I would guess at somewhere between 3.5-4.5… going by the description of the Richter Scale which says that at that level they are felt but not often causing any damage. It appears Taipei and Computex have a history of earthquakes with ‘quakes reported last year and in 1997.
