PRESS RELEASE

Bitdefender Safego, the application that provides anti-scam protection for you and your friends, now defends Twitter users too. The app is in beta for the microblogging site users and is available for download

Why use Safego on Twitter:

Bitdefender Safego is the only comprehensive social media security suite developed by a major player on the internet security market. Initially launched on Facebook, Bitdefender Safego is now available for Twitter as well. Packing the award-winning Bitdefender technology and relying on the extensive experience acquired in social scam detection, Bitdefender Safego proactively fights social scams, spam, phishing and other e-threats by identifying new and recurrent social threat behavior.

Main features:

Contact Safety Rainbow

BitDefender Safego allows users to easily sort through their existing and potential Twitter contacts based on a 4 item color code indicating the severity of a detected threat:

  • Red stands for highly suspicious accounts, which may be spreading malware, spam or may be used for phishing.
  • Yellow marks moderate threats, namely accounts that attract followers using spammy or annoying mechanisms.
  • Grey indicates a low threat potential, more precisely that no message has been sent from the respective account for the past 30 days.
  • Green will help Safego users single out safe accounts.

Sleek Account Protection

Once the app is installed, the activity in the respective account is scanned automatically, without any user input. Notifications concerning possible threats will be sent to the account holder by means of direct messages.

Following List Micromanagement

Users who wish to have hands-on control over new additions to their Following list can also rely on the Scan on demand function. In this way, they can check whether prospective contacts' accounts are safe before actually choosing to follow them and exposing their own accounts to unwanted security risks.

Private Message Scanning

As social e-threats spread using platform-specific mechanisms, Bitdefender Safego secures all possible scam and spam entry points into the user's Twitter account, including his/her private messages. Safego will scan private messages in order to detect spam and malicious links, as well as messages illicitly used for the dissemination of scams (as a result of account highjacking).
