Bringing cowboys, space rangers, dinosaurs, and little green aliens to life

Take a hit Disney movie and its cast of colourful characters and chuck them haphazardly into a video game and you’ve got the perfect recipe to make yourself some quick cash while using very few quality ingredients. If kids get to play as their favourite characters and see them magically come to life on screen they’re going to be as happy as Larry (Woody in this case,) no matter how useless the game happens to be.

In more recent years we’ve seen the likes of Up, Cars, Wall-E and Ratatouille all fail to live up to their movie’s own critical acclaim. These are all great films but they’re awful games that have hung onto the coat-tails of Disney’s glittering legacy, rushed to market to coincide with the release of their big screen counterparts. Toy Story 3,surprisingly, isn't actually one of those games.

In my head I’d virtually written the awful conclusion to Toy Story 3 before I’d even played the game, but finally here’s a Disney movie tie-in that has broken the mold to deliver a game full of imagination that provides heaps of fun and laughter along the way and is deserved of a much more positive conclusion than first thought.
